Our Journey

Follow the milestones and engineering projects that continue to shape CSalt's work in sustainable marine energy.

Milestone 01

Founding of CSalt

CSalt began as a small team of ambitious students pioneering Cornellโ€™s only student organization dedicated to marine energy. United by a shared vision to develop innovative hydropower solutions, the founding team set CSalt in motion. Since then, the organization has grown significantly in size while remaining driven by the same vision and goals that brought the team together.

WEC Powered Desalination

CSaltโ€™s first major project brought together wave energy and desalination to explore a new approach to freshwater production. The team developed a wave energy converter designed to harness ocean waves and power a reverse osmosis system, laying the groundwork for CSaltโ€™s work in marine energy technology.

Milestone 02

Becoming a Project Team

CSalt was offered Conditional Project Team Status for the 2026-27 school year! After operating as a club/research organization for two years, this marks the teamโ€™s official integration into the Cornell Project Team Structure.

Floating Lattice for Coral Regeneration

CSaltโ€™s newest project takes on coral reef bleaching, one of the greatest threats facing coral ecosystems worldwide. The team is developing a floating tile system where these tiles ride ocean waves to turn kinetic wave motion into electric power. This energy is applied to electrochemically trigger limestone mineral accretion which accelerates coral growth.
